Your journey into wellness

At urban sense we offer our clients a very different approach to managing their health. We have identified 4 prime areas that form the foundation of preventative treatment and promote optimum health and vitality.

  • Eating a balanced diet
  • Promoting movement and physical activity
  • Adrenal health and Stress management
  • Supporting your body with appropriate nutritional nutrients

These 4 prime areas form the basis of your assessment and treatment program, whilst  providing you with the ultimate in health care.

Eating well

A healthy diet is crucial to maintaining optimal health.  Current research indicates that most chronic diseases in western nations are nutritionally related.   Although we have an abundance of food available to us today, we seem to be receiving fewer nutrients from our typical western diet.  This can be attributed to a higher intake of processed and low fibre foods, soil depletion of essential nutrients such as magnesium, zinc, iodine and selenium as well as an increased exposure to environmental chemicals/toxins in our food.

Our Wellness diet focuses on the following key points:

  • Wide variety of whole foods that nourish and support your body
  • Good fat intake to support cellular health and metabolic function
  • Adequate protein intake
  • Foods high in phytonutrients and fibre
  • Easy to prepare meals and recipes to support you at home

Prevention is better than cure!

When was the last time you discussed your preventative health plan with your GP?  Probably never!  Whilst doctors are excellent at diagnosing a disease they are often not trained nor have the time to focus on helping you maintain optimal health and wellness.  Living a life that focuses on prevention of disease will improve your mental health, maintain your energy levels and support your total wellbeing.

Our Wellness Program can be tailored to suit your health needs, age and budget.  We suggest assessments be scheduled on a regular basis.  Your assessment profile includes:

  • Health Appraisal Questionnaire
  • Cellular Health Analysis
  • Nutritional Assessment
  • RBTI Analysis - to optimise your health program and gain deeper insight in to your specific nutritional needs
  • Specialized testing such as a Metabolic Assessment or a Hormone Profile may also be included for those wanting a more in depth health profile.

Consultation and referrals to other health professionals within and out side of our clinic may be recommended as part of an integrated approach to your health care.

We have created 3 specific programs to hep target your health needs.  Each program offers a comprehensive assessment which allows us to tailor the program to suit your individual needs.

Clinical Weight Management Program

Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is difficult for many people. There is so much conflicting advice offered that many people are unsure of what to do.  But with more than 1.4 billion overweight or obese people in the world it’s clear that more options and opinions do not lead to better results.  Our Clinical Weight Management Program is designed and implemented specifically for your body’s needs.  Our program includes a comprehensive assessment to identify your body type, weight issues and metabolic function.  This individualized assessment enables us to tailor a dietary program with the appropriate food and nutritional prescription to support you in achieving your goal weight and long-term weight management.  Click here to view the details of our Weight Management Assessment.

Whilst it might take some effort and perhaps a little time, by working with a program specific to your needs, you can finally get off the treadmill and onto the more interesting things in life.

Detox Program

Reducing our exposure to chemical toxins and environmental pollution is becoming quite a challenge today. Toxic overload can cause many problems that results in symptoms associated with allergies, recurrent infections, infertility, fatigue, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalance and chronic illness. Our detox rejuvenation program identifies problems associated with liver & gut detoxification that may be contributing to your current health condition.  A program is then tailored to address your specific problems and restore optimal liver and digestive function.   Specialized pathology testing is recommended to assess your body’s ability to clear and process toxins effectively from your body.  Suggested testing based on your profile may include 1 or 2 of the following:

  • Urinary Indican
  • Functional Liver Detoxification Profile
  • Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis
  • Salivary Hormone Assessment
  • Heavy Metal toxicity

To complete our range of wellness programs we have included a general overhaul for Men and some excellent tips and guidelines to maintaining health and wellness as you age.

Men’s health

It is a commonly held belief that many men adopt the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ approach to their health and avoid getting health checks on a regular basis.  Issues such as weight gain, blood pressure & cholesterol change, prostate health and hair loss are some of the common issues that may be over looked by many men as non specific health problems.

Stress, poor sleep, fatigue and weight gain are often the first signs that functional changes such as hormonal imbalance and nutritional deficiencies are occurring within the body.  By the age of 30 male hormone production has begun to decline. Unlike women, men do not experience clear symptoms as those seen in menopause, but research indicates that a decline in hormones especially testosterone and DHEA contributes to Male Andropause. Symptoms include: fatigue, anxiety, moodiness, reduced libido, loss of drive and self confidence, facial wrinkles, breast tissue development, muscle weakness, increased blood pressure and a reduction in bone density.   By addressing lifestyle and stress factors, supporting liver function and optimizing dietary and nutritional intake, we are often able to rebalance hormone production and restore health and vitality.

Optimal Male assessment

  • Cellular health analysis
  • 30 Day Body Overhaul

Healthy Ageing

Ageing is a fact of life – we can not stop it but fortunately we do have a choice in how well we age.  Advances in anti-ageing medicine have opened up a whole area of new testing that can help identify hormonal and nutritional imbalances associated with ageing.

Metabolic Organic Acid Assessment $375

Don't feel as well as your should, but you've been told repeatedly that your lab tests are all normal? There is a better way to assess what is missing and take the guess work out of knowing what you body needs, based on your individual requirements.  This test provides valuable information on how your body works.  One urine sample can be used to evaluate gut function, liver and nervous system health, as well as energy metabolism and nutrient deficiencies.  It is an effective screening tool that highlights areas of functional abnormality, nutrient deficiencies and cellular metabolism.

Cardiovascular Health Assessment $175

Cardiovascular disease is one of the biggest causes of death in Australia, with over 50,000 people per year dying from heart attacks, strokes and blood clot problems.

Most of us have heard that high cholesterol and high blood pressure contribute to your risk of a heart disease. Knowing your cholesterol level and blood pressure is an important step in reducing your risk. However, 50% of people who have heart attacks don’t have high cholesterol or high blood pressure.  You may have risk factors which haven’t been measured by your doctor. You may be under stress, not doing enough exercise or perhaps have high levels of inflammation in your body.  Your diet may lack the necessary fibre and essential nutrients required to maintain your health or you may be using stimulants such as coffee and alcohol to get you through the day.  These are just a few of the many factors that may contribute to the cause of cardiovascular disease.

To reduce your risk of CVD you need to know what may be putting you in danger and what you can do about it.  Our detailed questionnaire will help us identify your area of risk and allows us to develop a plan that includes the most appropriate lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements necessary for you to maintain a healthy heart and blood vessels.

For a more indepth investigation we recommend our CVD pathology profile that measures cardiovascular risks $175.00 Pathology tests includes: Blood clotting factors, full cholesterol profile, CRP Apolipoprotein A1, B, (a) and Homocysteine levels.

Hormone Profile $190

Salivary and urinary hormone testing is unique in that they help identify any hormonal imbalances which may be contributing to many health problems associated with ageing; weight gain, mood swings, night sweats, disturbed sleep, decreased libido, depression, premature ageing and adrenal fatigue.  Results obtained from testing make it possible for us to individualise your treatment in order to establish optimal hormone balance. Testing can also be used to monitor your treatment.

Age Boosting Nutraceuticals

Our cellular health is maintained by small power houses within our cells called mitochondria that generate the energy for all cellular function.  Like any engine they require fuel to function efficiently.  As we age, our body’s level of cellular nutrition often declines, which decreases the amount of sufficient fuel needed to maintain our cells.  This process is referred to as ‘mitochondrial decay’.  Research so far has highlighted several essential nutraceuticals that may help maintain and protect cellular mitrochondrial function.  These nutraceuticals include:

  • Alpha Lipoic Acid
  • Coenzyme Q10
  • Magnesium Orotate
  • EPA & DHA omega 3 essential fatty acids
  • Acetyl L-Carnitine.
  • Resveratrol

Brain Health: Dementia Prevention Health Plan

  • Assess life style & environmental stressors
  • Follow a Mediterranean or Paleolithic diet – high in omega 3 fish oils, vegetables and fruit and low in processed grains and dairy foods
  • Include Curcumin in your diet – know neuroprotective effect
  • Include Resveratrol in your diet – red wine, dark chocolate or supplement
  • Include foods such as berries and green tea (essential antioxidants)

Our 12 Top Healthy Ageing Tips

  • Learn to manage stress effectively – it’s the major cause of premature ageing and chronic disease
  • Walk every day for at least 30 minutes
  • Limit cell damaging fats such as saturated and trans fats in your diet – they have a direct link with cancer and heart disease
  • Get a good nights sleep – seven to eight hours a night of good sleep is essential for repair and rejuvenation
  • Go easy on the alcohol – whilst a glass may be beneficial, alcohol is a neurotoxin
  • Don’t smoke – every cigarette is toxic to your health and those around you
  • Try to maintain your ideal weight & muscle mass as you age
  • Supplement your diet with antioxidants and nutraceuticals to increase longevity
  • Implement a preventative health plan that addresses your nutritional requirements and dietary needs to maintain long term optimal health
  • Drink 8-10 glasses of purified, filtered water every day
  • Think YOUNG – Ageing is a state of mind as it is of physiology.  Lie about your age, especially to yourself, surround yourself with young at heart friends
  • Do not accept ‘getting old’, do everything you can to maintain a youthful mind and body.

Positive Attitude

"I am convinced that life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% of how I react".

Charles Swindoll

Maintaining a positive attitude during all stages of our lives has been shown to  improve our health and longevity.  Here are a few tips to help you:

  • Remind yourself daily of your successes - they do not have to be big achievements, it may be a project you completed, a friend you made time for or a healthy change you made to your diet.
  • Visualize your future - if you are not living the life you want, start visualizing the life you want to live.
  • Think about what means most to you - make a list and review it regularly.
  • Make your plans realistic - if you don't  plan you will not succeed.
  • Do some thing every day  that energizes you - it may be listening to music, working out or learning something new.
  • Learn to compliment yourself and to give compliments to others.
